NBA Free Agent Malik Beasley Sued By Previous Agency In Addition To Being
NEW YORK (AP) - NBA free representative Malik Beasley, who is under a federal examination relating to gaming claims, is the accused in a claim submitted by his former agency.
New York-based Hazan Sports Management Group sued Beasley in U.S. District Court for breaching a marketing agreement on April 18, a day before he and the Detroit Pistons opened a first-round series in New york city against the Knicks.
ESPN was the very first to report Tuesday on the suit.
Hazan Sports negotiated a $6 million, 1 year contract for Beasley with the Pistons last summertime. The shooting guard fired the firm in April and employed Seros Partners, according to the claim, despite a four-year exclusive marketing arrangement.
The firm is asking for $1 million in damages, plus a $650,000 advance it gave him together with commissions and expenses owed, according to the lawsuit.
Both sides are dealing with a settlement, according to a June 11 filing.
A message looking for comment was entrusted to the company. Beasley's lawyer is not pointed out in the filings. His agent, Steve Haney, in the federal investigation stated Tuesday he is not a part of the claim.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York is examining Beasley relating to gambling claims tied to league games.
"In 23 years of practicing law, I've had numerous clients federally examined who have never ever been charged," Haney stated. "Hope individuals keep that in mind and reserve judgement."
Porter ´ s ban came after a comparable investigation into his efficiency and "prop bets" - wages where wagerers can choose whether a player will reach a certain analytical standard or not during a game. The Porter examination began as soon as the league learned from "licensed sports wagering operators and a company that keeps an eye on legal wagering markets" about unusual gambling patterns ´ s efficiency in a game on March 20, 2024, against Sacramento.
The league determined that Porter gave a gambler info about his own health status prior to that game and stated that another individual - understood to be an NBA wagerer - positioned an $80,000 bet that Porter would not strike the numbers set for him in parlays through an online sports book. That bet would have won $1.1 million.
Beasley signed last year with the Pistons, taking a 1 year agreement for $6 million in the hopes of moneying in this summer season as a free representative.
