The Southlands Hub, currently being built on the website of the former Southlands Centre on Ormesby Road, is a flagship initiative led by Middlesbrough Council in partnership with the Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation.

Stage one of the advancement consists of the building and construction of the hub structure, featuring neighborhood meeting rooms, a social location, updated 3G and turf pitches, and brand-new open areas for sport and entertainment. Stage 2 is expected to bring more improvements to the website. The website is set up to open in early summer season 2026.

Among those in participation was former professional footballer and broadcaster Chris Kamara, who grew up in the location and played much of his early football in Park End.

'My very first surprise was, how comes Middlesbrough? When I was growing up, we didn't have a lot going on around there, so that was a massive surprise and a welcome increase,' Kamara said on the financing.

'To be involved in it is unbelievable. You understand, I'm so happy for the area. The kids can start dreaming like I did, of being a professional footballer. You have actually got these centers, which are advanced, and they'll have the ability to use them.'

When asked what motivated him to get onboard with the effort, Kamara spoke on the significance football plays in the area and the favorable impact the Southlands Hub will have going forward.

' [The funding can have a huge effect] To have the football club [Middlesbrough] onboard as well will be massive for the youngsters to dream and think, one day, like I did, 'Maybe I could put on that shirt of Middlesbrough and leave at the Riverside'.

'Now days, kids have got to contend with computers and smart phones. We need to get them out of the home. I do not want to seem like a dinosaur, however we didn't have interruptions in those days - you either played football or played in the street. Otherwise, you did absolutely nothing, essentially.

'If you were fortunate enough to have a telly, you got perhaps an hour [to enjoy it] - so we had no distractions, however not the facilities. Now, they're making the facilities readily available for the children, so [they should] use them - there's no reason.'

Kamara also took time to respond to questions surrounding the 2025-26 Premier League season - including his leading competitors for the title.

'Liverpool [have actually stuck out up until now this season] People keep saying they're not shooting on all cylinders - well they've won their games. God assistance groups when they do start shooting. They were electrifying versus Newcastle. Take a look at Chelsea in their second game, they chose up really well [against West Ham United]

'Mikel Arteta and Arsenal - they have actually been developing for this. There will not be any 2nd possibilities this time. He's going to need to win the Premier League or the Champions League. He probably has his best squad.

'Manchester City - you can never them off - especially with Pep [Guardiola] at the helm. Spurs may be the dark horses this year - there is a lot to look forward to.'

Kamara likewise shared his viewpoint on the Alexander Isak legend at Newcastle. It is worth noting his comments were made prior to Liverpool's acquisition of Isak.

' [The Alexander Isak circumstance is] very difficult for all concerned. What you're going to involve all these top players is that when you sign them, you're going to have to put in a buyout stipulation, and after that if a club pays, you accept that, and they can stroll,' he stated.

'The situation with Isak is that he was adored by the Newcastle fans and now he doesn't desire to bet them. So, they have every right to feel pull down and dissatisfied.'
