Moving into a student flat ain’t glamorous. The kitchen had a dodgy kettle, but we dragged in whatever we could find. IKEA lasts a term at best, so we searched markets. I spotted a funky armchair on Brick Lane. Everything mismatched, but that’s what made it real. Chairs with scars feel stronger, and it doesn’t matter if it’s scratched. I’ve watched half my flat pass out across two chairs, and those seats carried us. Shoreditch is perfect for this life, and designers take inspiration from it.

One afternoon I stumbled into Smithers, and couch and accent chairs the accent chairs were bold and weird. we were broke students, but it’s survived three house parties and a flood. We’ve all shoved sofas through windows. It’s part of student life. luxyry armchairs don’t mind if you fall asleep in them. Flat-pack won’t last a term, but old sofas age into character. every wobble tells the truth. By the end of the year, the cracked window gets forgotten, unique sofas but that funky accent chair is legend.

When you think furniture, don’t waste time on the soulless new. Choose a funky accent chair, and let it carry your student nights.
